colour my world
♥ Tuesday 1 April 2008 ♥

It was an icy night; there was not a single squeak on the streets. The cold wind blow past us, we sat by our dinner silently. Out of the blue, there were voices travelling from far side of the streets. Louder and louder, and the fight begins. There were voices from hundreds of people yelling at each other, with familiar and unknown languages, followed by sounds of pondering and clashing. Followed by, loud whistling and warning sounds.

“Ma, what we those people doing out there? Are they having a party, can we join in, and why can’t we go watch the Chinese opera at night now a days? Why?” my innocent young sister asked. What my Ma was just kept asking her to kept quiet, ate her dinner and stop asking questions. It had been days the riots between us Chinese and the Malays, and missing out our Chinese opera due to the curfew.

Ever since the separation of Singapore and Malaysia, it had been days and night of rioting and disruption going on around the city. At that time, our government was not powerful; our policemen were corrupted and unorganised. All they could do was setting up curfew; no one was to allow being on the streets from 9p.m till the next morning.

When dawn came, we everyone woke up and there was a sudden sense of peace and clam. However there was sound of sadness. As we walk out of the house, our neighbours came strolling out of their house too. The very first thing that caught our eyes, were blood stains splashed at our door way, shops and vehicles being damage seriously. But what also really caught our heart, were people crying painfully by the streets. Hugging their dear ones, who weren’t alive, in there arms. At the same time, there were unwanted copes and people who were badly wound laying flat on the road, and the scene was filled with tragic.

However, all those confutation for the past couple of days, it finally came to an end. In the evening, our Prime Minister, Mister Lee Kuan Yew, made a speech through the radio broad cast. Mentioning, all those misunderstanding were originally caused by the unhappiness of the Malaysian government towards Singapore. Albeit things did not just went off so easily, it took some time to let things when back to the way it supposed to be.
